The Dinosaur Game, also called Chrome Dino, was released in 2014 by a team of Google Chrome developers. Their idea was to make something fun for users when the connection failed — turning an annoying “No Internet” screen into a fun little adventure.

The dinosaur was chosen because it symbolized the “prehistoric era” — a time before Wi-Fi existed. The game’s designer, Sebastien Gabriel, once said that it represents the moment you go back in time whenever you lose your connection. What started as a small joke quickly became a global hit.

Today, the Dinosaur Game is played by hundreds of millions of people every month. In fact, some users even disconnect their internet on purpose just to play it!

How to Play

The gameplay is simple but surprisingly addictive. When the “No Internet” screen appears, you’ll see a small T-Rex dinosaur. Press the spacebar (on computers) or tap the screen (on mobile) to start running. The dinosaur automatically moves forward, and your job is to jump over cacti and avoid flying pterodactyls.

The longer you survive, the faster the game becomes. Your score increases the farther you run, and there’s no ending — it’s an infinite runner. If you crash into an obstacle, the game ends, and you can immediately start again with one simple tap.

It’s easy to learn but hard to master — which is exactly why so many people can’t stop playing.
